This is my baby. I love this piece. It was my first time ever working with Oil paints. It is done on bristol board, which doesn't hold up perfectly but it makes the overall appearance much smoother than if it were done on canvas.
9x12 painting
Today's world suffers because we have forgotten the forces that govern our existence. The sun and moon are but decorations in today's sky instead of the mysterious forces we once identified them with. The earth is split as an effect, still reflecting it's dual influence from the heavens and suffering because of the change.
My teacher didn't get it. Big surprise.
Comments/critiques loved.
<s>Help me win a tablet! I've never had one before in my life, and since I'm in art school, it would be REALLY helpful T_T Fave if you want to help!</s>
<s>EDIT!! Ok, so the faves only count during a specific time >.< I appreciate each and every one of you who has faved already! It's almost one hundred after just a day! You guys astound me! For now, though, I need to wait for faves until 12:00:00 AM (PT) May 29, 2009 and 11:59:59 PM (PT) June 4, 2009. Thank you all again!</s>
LATER EDIT: I appreciate all the s I've been getting, but I really only entered this contest to have a shot at the prizes. Unfortunately, a whole bunch of other pieces... mostly digital, and a large majority of which already have tablets >=[ ... have taken a sweeping lead over my piece. If you genuinely like the piece, keep on doing your thing, but otherwise, don't feel pressured to try to help me out =/
LATEST EDIT: I didn't even make it into the top 50. A couple artists that I watch did, which isn't surprising, because they have the amazing skill to do that. I guess I'm just too mediocre to ever amount to anything.
This is fantastic! I especially love the framing on the darker side the chain justcmes through has being trapped in my head, no idea if thats what you were going for, but still the connect works well with the idea of darkness. Great work!

Thanks n.n;; Pretty much all the little details I included have some sort of meaning behind it, so I'm glad that even a small part of it really sticks with you!
Wow.. I love that the detail isn't too overbearing, but there's enough to make your own interpretations about the piece, as well as understanding what you meant by the author comment
